In 1981, TV viewers in Eugene, Oregon were accustomed to having only two local channels. When cable TV arrived with 24 channels, it was heavenly. So when the University of Oregon student newspaper wrote an article on the subject, my graphic showed beer-drinking white male couch potatoes on cloud nine able to binge-watch the new programming 24 hours a day.
