These plans for a commercial office developer proposed three new buildings and plantings for a large property adjacent the Valley River Center mall in Eugene, Oregon.

My primary contribution to the proposal was the landscape design which promoted the use of native plants. This design featured three-story tall shade trees planted 20ft on center that would define outdoor spaces between the buildings as they grew into a connected canopy.

Groupings of trees from a single species resulted in a homogeneity of texture, pattern, light and shade that made their collective experience more important. And by following a grid consistent with building floor plans, the plantings created spatial continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces.
