Losses increase hospital bills

  • Hospitals around Eugene, Oregon in 1981 were rationalizing their rate increases by pointing out their losses. Figuring readers would appreciate the student newspaper's sarcastic article about the situation, my graphic showed a cheery physician pointing out the obvious with a cheesy smile. This work marked my shift in line work from pen to brush. The little bird character was a style rip-off of Pat Oliphant's syndicated editorial cartoons - a phase I got over quickly.
