Hospitals around Eugene, Oregon in 1981 were rationalizing their rate increases by pointing out their losses. Figuring readers would appreciate a sarcastic view of the situation, my graphic showed a cheery physician pointing out the obvious with a cheesy smile. This work marked my shift in line work from technical pen to brush.
